About Milpitas California
Milpitas California is a small community in North San Jose between the Levin County Park and Coyote Creek. This Santa Clara County city is home to about 85,000 residents as well as several corporate headquarters including SonicWall, Maxtor, LSI Corporation, Adaptec, Intersil, and FireEye.
For decades, Milpitas was a popular stopover for travelers through the Oakland and San Jose area and was incorporated as a city in 1954. In 1955, it was the hub for the Ford Motor Assembly Plant, accelerating growth in the 1960s and 1970s. This plant closed in 1984 and was converted to a shopping mall known as the Great Mall of the Bay Area, which opened in 1994. In the early 2000s, the Milpitas light rail transit system was added connecting surrounding areas and making it the northeastern most light rail destination in the region.
Milpitas is divided into three main sections, a large industrial and commercial area, and several residential neighborhoods. Although there's no real downtown area, there are several retail centers throughout the community. The oldest part of Milpitas is called "Midtown", with several historic residences and one of the oldest commercial districts dating back to 1945.
Milpitas is known for having one of the largest percentages of residents employed by the computer and tech products industry even though 75% of people who live in the town actually worked outside the city limits. Because of this, traffic is probably one of Milpita's only downsides.
Milpitas has its own Milpitas Unified School District originally formed in the 1950s. There are nine elementary schools, two middle schools, and the Milpitas high school. The Santa Clara County Library system operates libraries throughout Milpitas. The Rancho Milpitas middle school, Thomas Russell middle school, and Milpitas high school are some of the top-ranked schools in the district.
Things to Do in Milpitas
As we've mentioned, many people live in Milpitas even though they may work outside the city limits. Because of this, there are several fun things to do in recreational activities including the Milpitas Alliance for the Arts, featuring many sculptures around Milpitas parks, venues, educational programs, plays, and musical venues including the Celebrate Milpitas Festival every August.
Milpitas is also home to the largest Bay Area enclosed shopping malls, the Great All we were talking about earlier. It is one of the biggest shopping centers in Northern California with over 200 stores and over 1,300,000 ft.² of retail area. There's also the Milpitas Square, featuring several different outdoor shopping venues, retail shops, boutiques, markets, and more. And that's not all… There are nearly 10 different shopping facilities, squares, and centers throughout Milpitas. If you're looking for some fabulous shopping, this is the place to be.
Shopping is not the only thing that Milpitas has to offer. There are multiple parks including the Levin County Park, the largest regional park in the area. There are multiple trails throughout the park, areas for hang gliding and paragliding, dog park facilities, two golf courses, and over 17 traditional neighborhood parks making up to 10 acres each of fun things to do, sports complexes, swimming pools, sports fields, and trails.
Milpitas Real Estate
Milpitas has been ranked as one of the best places to live in the Santa Clara area due to its dense suburban feel and lots of residential options. 65% of residents own their own homes and there's a median home value of about $785,000. Here's what other folks have to say about living in Milpitas
"As a current Milpitas resident for 3 1/2 years, I would describe my experience as great. I love the space that Milpitas offers, unlike in San Jose, where the roads are somewhat cramped. The streets are clean and the community is friendly despite the many businesses in the area (i.e. mall, hotels, family-owned and chain locations, etc.). There is a 2-story library that caters to students and adults in providing free access to resources. The location offers a variety of plazas that have a multitude of restaurants and grocery options. The schools are opened to guests that can want to to walk and exercise, making it family-friendly. The fire and police departments are nearby and are quick to respond to any event. The nearby high school offers a massive campus that accommodates for transferring student(s) or graduating middle schoolers. Overall, I would rate my experience as astonishing because I am able to find a restaurant, drug store, and shopping mall in the surrounding location." - Niche.com
