Originally called Murphy, Sunnyvale got its current name back in 1901 because of its sunny region adjacent to areas with significantly more fog. Over the years, the city has built up and celebrate its 100th anniversary on August 25, 2012. As previously mentioned, Sunnyvale gets fantastic weather and has a Mediterranean climate with mild, moist winters and very dry, warm summers with an average temperature in the high 70s during the summer and an average high temperature of around 50° in the winter. We hardly get any snow.

Schools

Residents are part of their own Sunnyvale school district but some parts of the city are in the Cupertino Union School District and the Santa Clara Unified school district. For the high school, most of the city is located in the Fremont Union high school District but there are multiple middle schools and elementary schools as well as private and preschools.

Neighborhoods

The southern half of Sunnydale is primarily residential predominantly built out by Eichler Homes. Within these neighborhoods, there are nearly 500 acres of parks including some of the largest, the Las Palmas Park, Ortega Park, Seven Seas Park, Washington Park, and Baylands Park. There are also two public golf courses and a gorgeous garden community called Charles Street Gardens. This thriving organic community garden is in the heart of Sunnyvale offering sustainability and a space for garden lovers to experience urban green space in a busy city. Plots are utilized by local gardeners and classes are held each quarter on growing your own food in a variety of garden activities.
